The Orange One It Is, Then! a.k.a The Definition of A Friend

Friday I asked you which one of the cards I should post first and you said the orange one...so...the orange one it is then!
First, I should say that these are not colours I would normally associate or use, but somehow the pieces of paper managed to get together at the moment I made it (of which I will tell you more in a future post, as this was originally made to be exposed in a creativity festival).

Design Details:

• The base of the card is beige 300 gsm (I think - anyway, heavy weight) card stock, and about the measurements - I should say that I love the A5 format - meaning I use a A4 card stock, folded in two (I think this is approximately 15 x 21 cm). They are big enough for all the next layers and embellishments and they are still easy to be sent.

• The next layer consists of butter yellow 120 gsm paper, cut 1 cm smaller that the card base, corner punched and edge inked with red ink and sponge. 

• The burgundy pattern paper is a piece of 120 gsm plain paper, on which I stamped with brown ink with a clear unmounted stamp from Folia Bringmann (I cannot recall the set but if you are interested, I can try to find out for you.). This piece is also edge inked with brown ink and corner punched.

• The central layer is made of 2 hand cut circles of 120 gsm paper, black and orange, on which I stamped again using the same stamp, slightly bent so it would fit the circle, on which I applied the quilled design, made with 3mm hand cut strips.

• The ribbon is satin I think, the colour is something in between cantaloupe and a rich yellow, and for keeping the pattern I also stamped it with the same stamp and some red ink. I then applied the bow and the button (which by the way is gorgeous, don't you think?) and for the sentiment I used a digital stamp, printed it on beige 120 gsm paper and sponged it with red ink.

The interior of the card was blank, but as I offered this card to a friend on his graduation, I filled it with nice thoughts.

I'm coming back...

...soon. I know, I know, I haven't been such a presence lately (actually it's been quite long), but I've been through a couple of things, some good, some less, plus I'm in the middle of my semestrial exams now, but I'll restart posting very soon. That's a promise and I plan on keeping it! And to add a little teaser...a couple of pictures :)

Felt Heart

A couple of weeks ago, as I was searching through different stores for all kind of materials (like ribbons, papers and other card supplies) I found a set of different sheets of felt, precut for making a flag - the triangle style. What was great about this set is that the precut shapes were self-adhesive, so that made them even easier to be used. I decided I would buy it right away and planned on using the shapes on my quilling cards. I started by making these two little hearts on my card here. This one went to a friend's friend, on her birthday. I haven't found yet what she thought about it, but I could only hope she liked it. What do you say?

Also, if you have noticed, I've been trying lately to give more dimension to my cards, to make them look more 3D. I think they must get as "alive" as you can make them be, so I'm looking for all kind of techniques in order to obtain this. What about you? What do you think your card should try to be?

2 Cards Out Of My Comfort Zone

I know I haven't said much lately but I haven't worked much on my cards, as I've been ill and all, but yesterday I had my perfect Sunday, quilling 2 cards. Not these ones I am going to show you, but these I had in my folders for a while and only today did I manage to watermark them.

I hope you'll like them, although I must confess they are both not my style specifically. One because of the model ( the butterfly) and the other because of the colors. Anyway, I like the way they turned out and I'll be waiting for your sincere opinions.
As about posting new stuff, I promise I'll try to stay around more.

Spring Fever

Remember when I was telling you about the never-ending winter that was here, in Cluj? Well, it seems like, finally, the spring decided to come, so we enjoy our warmer and sunnier days, although yesterday and today it rained a little. So, being in the spirit of rebirth, I'll show you a "fresh" card today.

As you can see, I used a couple of different items and techniques for this card, including painting, punching, quilling, pattern paper and some ribbon. I start to realize more and more that quilling is beautiful both in its "pure state" but also when mixed with other crafts, images etc.

When Painting Meets Quilling

Last week I went to a local hobby shop which is actually more about painting, colouring, as it mostly has painting paper, all kind of oil colours, acrylics and watercolors. What I bought from there were some acrylic colours and 2 brushes, as I am more and more into stamping and shaping techniques (but stamps here are such a rare thing...:( ). I tried to combine some painted shapes made with stencils I had previously bought a couple of days before with vivid yellow flowers and this is what it came of it:

I am also becoming a bigger fan of bows everyday and I am planning to buy a lot more of them, so be prepared to see a lot of more "ribbon-y" cards. I hope you'll like my card and that it will enlighten your day a little!

(A Late) Happy Mother's Day!

I know it's already the 9th, but I've just finished my card for tonight and I couldn't let this day (actually yesterday already...) to pass without telling all the beautiful and crafty women I know here in the blogosphere a sweet, truthful and well-deserved  

"Happy Mother's Day!"

As a gift for all my lady readers and followers ( in fact, all talented crafty women are ladies, because the art will always ennoble us) I will share with you a card I've done last night, as a request from one of my college colleagues, who wanted this for her mother. It's been the first time I've quilled with this palette of colours - chocolate, cappuccino, mild beiges and yellows, khaki, pale greens and a touch of burgundy. I've had the papers for a long time, loved the colours when I had bought them but never had the chance to work with them. But I must admit I like the way they blend together on the ivory card stock, although they might look more like "autumn-y" rather than "spring-y" :) 

I truly hope that the celebrated receiver of my work enjoyed it. Do you? I'll wait for your opinions and comments below, but,
